Details of the Outdoor Express project

The summer 2024 Outdoor Express bus connections have been implemented with the support of Metsähallitus’ National Parks Finland Lakeland nature services and the municipalities of Tampere, Ylöjärvi, Ruovesi, and Kuhmoinen. The service is produced in cooperation with Matkahuolto, Visit Tampere, EcoFellows Ltd, and the Lake Trails.

The Outdoor Express experiment is part of the development work for the lake and nature tourism roadmap of Tampere. The goal is to test the service’s functionality and to make it a permanent part of the nature tourism service offerings in the Tampere and Pirkanmaa regions.

The tests conducted in autumn 2022, which were part of the development of sustainable travel services carried out in the Sustainable Tourism Mobility project, provide the background for the experiment. The Sustainable Tourism Mobility project is a development project implemented by Visit Tampere, the Baltic Institute of Finland, and the University of Tampere. The project is funded by the Council of Tampere Region’s REACT-EU instrument from the European Union’s COVID-19 pandemic response measures.
