Pyhä-Häkki is known for its ancient forests and magnificent wetlands. This national park, located in Saarijärvi, offers over 20 kilometres of well-marked and easy-to-navigate trails that invite both experienced hikers and families to enjoy the tranquillity of nature. The park’s turtle-barked pines and fire-scarred trees tell the story of past centuries’ forest fires, and the ancient forests of Mastomäki stop even the busiest traveller to marvel at the power and beauty of nature. The oldest trees in Pyhä-Häkki National Park have been reaching for the sky for nearly 500 years!
A recommended day hike is the 6.5 km Kotajärvi Trail, which passes through ancient forests to the Great Tree and leads back to the parking area via a campfire site. The park offers basic amenities such as a campfire site, cooking shelter, dry toilets, and guided trails that make the visit easy. QR codes along the trails provide additional information about the area’s history and nature.
